Who are you?
I’m Shannon Langbecker, a Brisbane portrait photographer. I love what I do!
I worked at a boutique portrait studio in Graceville for about 6 years, where I met and photographed hundreds of lovely Brisbane families. I left to start a family, and now I work for myself. I love photographing kids and babies, and capturing the love and heartfelt emotion of families.
Where will the session be held?
Newborn & baby shoots can be done in the comfort of your home. Either using my portable studio kit to create timeless, intimate black & white images, or simply using locations and available light around your home and garden to create some beautiful relaxed portraits of your family.
For children of about 12 months and up, sessions can be held at your home, or a location around Brisbane. I have a number of locations I love to use (these include parks, beaches & urban areas) or you can suggest a place that holds special meaning to you and your family.
How long will it take?
Normally no longer than 1 – 1.5hrs is needed to capture a range of gorgeous images for kids and family sessions. I allow plenty of time for breaks and getting to know each other. I don’t think you get the most natural images of a child after 3 hours of direction in front of the camera, so I work quickly while everyone is still fresh and enthusiastic.
I do allow extra time for baby sessions, so there is plenty of time for feeding or changing, and there’s no pressure, no rush.
What should I expect?
I’m a very experienced portrait photographer, which goes a long way to creating a fun, low-stress session, with lots of giggles and laughter.
I welcome your ideas, but if you prefer you can leave it entirely up to me, so you don’t need to practice posing!
The less stressed you are, the more relaxed your children will be, and the more natural and relaxed the images will look – the happier you will be with the result!
I’ve seen enough out-and-out tantrums, tears, runaway 2 year olds and sibling arguments that it’s very hard to shock me. So don’t feel embarrassed or upset if your child isn’t acting perfectly. I aim to capture real emotions, and real people, and this is all part of the fun! I allow plenty of time for all of this and more, so we can all have fun and make this a memorable experience.
How much will it cost me?
I charge a single fee of $495 for a session (within 10kms of Sherwood. Further travel will incur a small fee), plus a USB of a minimum of 40 images from the session, in both colour and black and white. These are high-quality and can be printed onto any products you wish, to almost any size, at your leisure.
Classic curled-up newborn sessions generally incur an extra fee of $150 due to the considerable amount of time they take to shoot and edit, but please contact me to discuss as these sessions can vary greatly depending on what you require.
What should I wear?
Something you feel comfortable in!
Avoid big logos and heavily patterned shirts, as they can distract from your faces and look too ‘busy’ if everyone is wearing different patterns (ie, spots, stripes and checks all together).
It works well if you try to co-ordinate everyone so their outfits work well together (but you don’t all have to wear the same shirts, unless you want to!).
Neutrals are great, but also, don’t be afraid of colour…and you can bring along fun accessories like tutus, beanies, hats, and favourite toys.
For little kids, layers are great – imagine stripey leggings, little jackets, hats, bright colours.
Feel free to bring a few options if you’re undecided, or want some advice.
As long as you look like you, and feel great, you really can’t go wrong!
