I love, love, love music recommendations.
I have some friends that have excellent taste in music and somehow always seem to be recommending my next favourite album. I don’t get a chance to listen to the radio very often, so these recommendations are my lifeline to great new music – otherwise, I’d be stuck listening to John Farnham, Bette Midler, and really bad 90′s music.
I love live music and on occassion have gone to see an unknown band with friends, and left with an album & a new band to add to my list of faves.
I do like to attend the odd fesitval too, and sometimes have happened upon a fantastic band, and wondered how I lived my life to this point without knowing their amazing music. Those are goosebump moments and one reason why I love a festival – such a great way to listen to so many different bands in one short (& loud!) weekend.
So, in the spirit of ‘giving back’ I thought I’d share some of my favourite music just in case you take a listen and realise there was actually something missing from your life, but you just didn’t know it. (click on their name to go straight to their website)
Super cool, relaxed vibe. Put this on when you’ve got friends over and you want some chilled background music that’s not ‘chillout’ music.
If I could turn back time and see one band live it would be these guys. So many of their songs sound like they could have been created today. Love them.
Great Australian band. Listen to their album ‘Cruel Guards’ from the beginning to the end. Love it! Their new album has just been released, and it’s growing on me.
I fell in love with their music after seeing them at a festival. I had never heard of them before, but their music drew me in straight away. Especially love their self titled album.
Another festival surprise! These Norwegian girls are all gorgeous and swapped instruments after almost every song at the show I saw at the Woodford Folk Festival last year. Amazing harmonies, and probably one of the highest-energy bands I’ve ever seen live. So, so fun! If you ever hear of them touring, you should definitely do your best to see them live!
So many great songs and awesome live both times I’ve seen them. Their song ‘Mary’ on their new album is fantastic to sing to turned up as loud as possible in your car!
This guy is a genius! If you haven’t heard his song ‘Somebody that I used to know’ then click here and listen to it. You’ll love it. The rest of his (old & new) stuff is awesome too!
Can you recommend any bands I should check out? I’m always looking for new music and would love to hear some new recommendations! Please leave a comment below as to who you think I should check out.
